Christian Rwanda the home of genocide - why?

Steve Addison posts an intriguing problem for us:

Christian churches, seminaries, schools and other institutions were sprinkled throughout the land. And yet all of this Christianity did not prevent genocide, a genocide which some leading church officials did little to resist." (quoting another article).

I'm looking forward to the follow up post!

The African Enterprise man who spoke at college about the Rwandan Reconciliation project mentioned a couple of pertinent things.

One is that although most of the country calls themself Christian - in truth, many are only nominally Christian.

The other is that not only did the genocide happen in a country full of Christians, some pastors allowed militia to come into their churches and massacre people hiding there. My guess is that they cared less about their faith and more about ethnicity or keeping their own lives.
