G. K. Beale, in the Colossians chapter of The New Commentary on the New Testament Use of the Old Testament (Eds Beale and Carson) compares Exodus 31:3 with Colossians 1:9-10:
The Exodus texts assert aht God filled people with the Spirit so that they would have the skills needed to build the tabernacle and fashion its inner contents. Accordingly, Paul sees God filling Christians with his Spirit so that they can live skillful godly lives.

What do you think he means by 'skillful godly lives'?
When I first read it, I thought it was like in the sense of using our skills in a protestant work ethic kinda way... so I was thinking that it wasn't really applying the idea in a very biblical theology kinda way where we might say we are filled with the Spirit to build each other up as the Church. Or maybe it can be both. Or maybe I shouldn't try to post when settling a baby at 3am :)
I don't think it's work ethic, but rather whole lives lived in godly wisdom.
